Dutch Regulator Orders Polymarket Arm to Halt Operations
The Dutch gambling authority has ordered Polymarket's local entity, Adventure One, to cease all activities, citing alleged illegal betting operations, including on election outcomes.

The Dutch financial regulator, the Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa), has issued a directive compelling Polymarket's Dutch subsidiary, Adventure One, to immediately discontinue its operations. The authority alleges that Adventure One has been facilitating illegal betting activities within the Netherlands.
Specifically, the Ksa's investigation identified that Adventure One was offering wagers on a range of events, including, notably, elections held in the Netherlands. These activities are said to have occurred without the necessary licenses required by Dutch law to operate a gambling platform.
The order marks a significant move by Dutch authorities to assert regulatory control over decentralized finance and prediction market platforms operating within their jurisdiction. The Ksa has previously signaled its intention to scrutinize platforms that may be circumventing national gambling regulations.
This development underscores the increasing attention regulatory bodies worldwide are paying to the Web3 space, particularly to decentralized applications that offer financial services or betting mechanisms. The case highlights the ongoing challenge of applying existing legal frameworks to novel technologies like prediction markets and the potential for enforcement actions when platforms are perceived to be operating outside established compliance boundaries.
